A little sweet, a little savory, and full of hope.
Our next Limited Release offering comes to you from an island in the middle of the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Lake Kivu. Idjwi Island is the home to the women coffee producers belonging to the cooperative Rebuild Women’s Hope (RWH). This collective was founded over a decade ago with the goal to fight the inequalities that women in agriculture face and to support their empowerment. It’s the group’s mission “to give women back their voice by placing them at the center of all integral development, in particular, economic empowerment and autonomy. We believe that income controlled by women has a significant impact on the life of the family, including the development and well-being of the community.”
Since its foundation RWH has constructed maternal and pediatric hospitals, water supply systems, and helped develop educational programs to support the sustainable economic and personal development of the women of the cooperative.
It’s something special when the coffee you choose to drink has a story of hope behind it, and it is great to be a part of the process of getting this coffee from Idjwi Island into your cup. With notes of grapefruit, cinnamon, and cocoa, we hope you enjoy this coffee as much as we have.
